About Mrs. Khalila M. Govan

Hello, my name is Khalila Govan, and I would like to welcome you to the Instrumental Music programs at Deer Valley High School.

I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and recently moved to the Glendale/Phoenix area. This will be my 14th year teaching and my 4th year as a Deer Valley Skyhawk!

While I attended the University of Arizona for my undergraduate degree, as a Trumpet player I performed in the U of A Marching and Pep Bands, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. Prior to moving from Tucson, I performed in several community groups: Arizona Symphonic Winds, Old Pueblo Brass Band, and the Santa Cruz Summer Winds.

When not performing or teaching, I enjoy spending time with my pets, family, and friends. Some of my hobbies include exercising, video gaming (both console and PC), attending sporting events, and playing basketball. I also play trumpet in the Desert Overture Wind Symphony.

Sharing the love of music and performing is my passion. Music is a great way to build great future leaders and life-long appreciators of the performing arts. I look forward to working with all students in the instrumental music program. Go Skyhawks!
