High school 11th grade students are highly encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) in order to prepare for taking the SAT college entrance exam. This test is also used as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship and the National Recognition Program for students taking the test in their junior year. The PSAT is optional.
The PSAT is typically taken in a student’s junior year. The PSAT/NMSQT is a timed test that includes sections in math, critical reading, and writing skills (no essay). It is a digital exam taken on your school chromebook. The test takes 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete after a small pre-administration section. Students will receive score reports showing which answers they answered right and wrong, how they performed on specific academic skills, and how their scores compare to other students across the country.
